Though not food related, I recently contributed to North: A graphic guide to Pittsburgh’s Northside. This fresh take on the traditional visitor’s guide introduces the reader to the Northside’s historic destinations and people via the cartoon stylings of American Splendor contributor Ed Piskor, editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers, Paulette Poullet, and THE PLAIN JANES creator Jim Rugg .
For my part, I compiled a list of 10 notable Northsiders and crafted a short bio for each person on the list. 50-word bios are a lot tougher to write than you’d think, especially when you’re trying to distill the life story of someone like Martha Graham or Josh Gibson down to three sentences. But the final product is cooler than I could have ever anticipated thanks to the amazing artwork of Scott Hedlund.
I’d like to extend special thanks to Brian “Mr. Northside” O’Neill and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. For more information on NORTH, including ways to get your very own copy, visit http://toonseum.org/exhibits_north.html.
These are great, Em! Congrats!
